No mahurrat for Ram temple bhoomi pujan on Aug 5: Digvijaya Singh

BHOPAL: A day after former chief minister

Kamal Nath

welcomed construction of

Ram temple

in Ayodhya,

Rajya Sabha

MP and

senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh

tweeted for speedy construction of a grand temple.

BJP, however, saw criticism in Digvijaya Singh’s early morning tweet and said that the Congress leader always contradicts himself.

“The Centre of our faith is Lord Ram. And the whole country today is running

Ram bharose

(on the faith of Ram). That is why, we all desire that soon a grand temple should be constructed in Ayodhya, the birthplace of Lord Ram and he should sit there. The late Rajiv Gandhiji also wanted the same,” Digvijaya tweeted.

“So far as the matter of Mahurrat (auspicious timing) is concerned, there will be more than 90% of Hindus in this country who believe in spiritual science like in mahurrat, planets, astrology and choughadiya (Hindu panchang timing),” the Congress leader said. “I stand by the fact that there is no mahurrat for laying of foundation stone on August 5, this is entirely an act of playing with the religious sentiments and beliefs of the people,” he added.

Digvijaya Singh was referring to seers of Varanasi who said there is no proper Mahurrat for bhoomi pujan or laying of foundation stone of Ram temple in Ayodhya on August 5. Seers said that no auspicious ceremony is permitted in the ongoing Hindu month of Bhadon or Bhadra.

In another tweet, the Congress leader quoted, “Ramhee kewal premu piyara, Jaani leu jo jaan nihara (For Lord Ram only loves love, those who want to know should know).

Retaliating to former chief minister Digvijaya Singh’s tweet, home minister Narottam Mishra said, “Whenever he speaks, it is always to contradict. It is some people’s habit to criticise. But at least Congress has finally taken the name of Ram whether it is Kamal Nath or Digvijaya Singh. It has come late, but better late than never. Now they should tell the other big central leaders of the Congress to do the same. Especially leaders like

Kapil Sibal

who said Ram is a myth and there is no Ram Setu when Lord Ram resides in every heart.”

Mishra also said that Singh should stop his conspiracies and take the name of Ram honestly at his age.
