Maruti Suzuki to drive in 2020 S-Cross on August 5: What to expect

NEW DELHI: Maruti Suzuki is gearing up for the launch of the all-new BS6 complaint S-Cross. The crossover SUV which was showcased at the Auto Expo 2020 is finally hitting the market after the delay due to the Covid Crisis.

The BS6 S-Cross is expected to be more affordable than the outgoing BS4 model and to be priced in the range of Rs 7.5 lakh- Rs 12 lakh(ex-showroom). The BS4 model ranged between Rs 8.8 lakh-Rs 11.43 lakh(ex-showroom).

The major and most noticeable change in the new BS6 S-Cross is in terms of what’s under the hood. The new Maruti Suzuki S-Cross will only be available in four petrol-based trims as it makes it to the BS6 era. The carmaker has pulled the plug on the diesel-based variant of the crossover SUV. Interestingly, the S-Cross made its debut in India as an exclusively diesel-powered crossover SUV.

The new Maruti Suzuki S-Cross is powered by a BS6 compliant 1.5-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine that can generate a maximum power output of 105 PS and offer a peak torque of 138 Nm. The new engine is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission and a 4-speed AGS transmission. The enormous change in the powertrain will be an interesting thing to watch out for.

The BS6 S-Cross will be offered in 4 trims- Sigma, Delta, Zeta and Alpha, out of which the latter three come with automatic transmission. The previous S-Cross portfolio also had the exact same variants to offer, but only with a manual transmission.

In terms of looks and bodywork, there isn’t any big change underway. The BS6 model is expected to look exactly same as the BS4 model. Although the features of the BS6 S-Cross haven’t been revealed yet, they aren’t expected to see a lot of changes too.

The BS6 Maruti Suzuki S-Cross is expected to offer auto-folding ORVMs, LED headlamps, alloy wheels, engine push button start, cruise control, automatic climate control among a few other things.

Maruti Suzuki had commenced the pre-launch bookings for the S-Cross very recently at a token amount of Rs 11,000. The Maruti Suzuki S-Cross takes on the likes of Renault Duster, Ford Freestyle, Nissan Kicks and Hyundai i20.
